Fidelity Investments, the world’s largest asset management company, may start working on Bitcoin hosting services this year and may go further in the next few weeks to start letting institutional customers trade cryptocurrencies. A Fidelity spokesperson said that trading services will focus on Bitcoin first.
Fidelity has been researching the cryptocurrency market internally since 2014, and in the last 10 years, Fidelity’s virtual asset company was announced to formally enter the new market. According to Bloomberg yesterday, Fidelity will join the platform of brokers E*Trade Financial Corp and Robinhood, but will only provide trading services to institutional investors.
A Fidelity spokesperson said that a number of customers have been selected and are ready to provide trading services for them and will continue to launch services in the future based on customer needs, regulations, and other factors. Earlier this month, Fidelity also released a research report, saying that 47% of institutional investors believe that virtual goods are worth investing.
